Strike it lucky with marathon effort

Richard Munnings, a local runner, who has supported Strode Park Foundation all of his life, is now taking on a challenge of his own to support the charity.

Richard will be taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday 1 August and will be running alongside 14,500 thousand other runners and taking in the most iconic sights of our capital at the same time.

The 53-year-old from Herne is hoping to complete the feat in just over two hours, but he said that because of his ambitious time target training has been tough.

He said: “Training has been difficult to start with. I have been shielding in lockdown so bought myself a treadmill but now restrictions are easing I have been able to get out. I’ve done a 10k, hill training and before this event I will be running around the coast of Cornwall for another epic challenge.”

This is not the first time Richard has done this the London Landmarks Half Marathon. He completed it in 2019 and said it was a fantastic event. “Just being part of a big race and being with the crowds and with it being well supported will be amazing.”

Richard is hoping to raise £500 or more if he can. And will combine his fundraising efforts with a fundraising event with his local pub – The Copper Pottle or with a bowling event and raffle.
