Dipping Toes into Corporate Volunteering

Heigh Ho, heigh Ho, it’s off to volunteering we go!

On Friday 13 October, a team of employees from Worcester Bosch attended Strode Park House to clear the overgrown vegetation from the scenic pond area.

The awesome foursome dug deep and pulled together to provide our residents with easy access to the pond so that the residents can use it as a quiet and tranquil space to relax. Despite the cold and gloomy weather, the team pushed through to give the residents the access back to the pond space that they need.

Worcester Bosch, a boiler manufacturer which started in 1962 and have grown to become the market leader in domestic boilers. In 2022 for their 60th anniversary they started an initiative where each team got the opportunity to volunteer for a charitable cause. This was such a success they have continued it on.

Daniel Bicker, who works in the Service Engineer department, and his colleagues John, Howard and Liam spent the whole day getting to work to make a difference. Cutting, sawing, and digging were just some of the things Daniel’s team did to makeover the once overgrown area.

Daniel, who has worked for Worcester Bosch for 17 years, chose Strode Park Foundation as his chosen charity to volunteer for because it holds a special place in his heart. Daniel’s mum, Carollynn Bicker, was a resident at our home in Herne, Kent. Carollynn was a resident for about ten years, but sadly was diagnosed with MS and passed away two years ago. In Daniel’s words, she was ‘well looked after and really enjoyed her time here’.

Daniel said: “I wanted to give back to a place that cared so well for my mum, and this was a good opportunity to help a charity close to my heart.”

The team had an amazing time on the day, and all said that ‘it is a great bit of team building and a lovely care home.’ They also said expressed that they were ‘thankful and grateful they could make the house feel homelier.’

Daniel added: “Today was a really good opportunity to take care of the grounds; I used to love taking my mum around here”.

Thank you, Worcester Bosch for all your hard work. We cannot wait too hopefully have you back again.
