Latest News Strode Park chosen by the Lady Mayoress Each year the Canterbury City Councillors elect a Lord Mayor who then chooses a Lady Mayoress to support them in their year of office. The Lady Mayoress then chooses one or more charities to support for the year and, together with her committee, fundraises for those charities organising a range of events across the Canterbury District. The Lord Mayor usually attends the event with the Lady Mayoress so the profile of the charities is raised as well as raising funds for good causes. This year the Lord Mayor is Cllr Colin Spooner and the Lady Mayoress is his wife Julie Spooner and we are delighted that she is supporting Strode Park Foundation along with another local charity! "As the Lady Mayoress of Canterbury l feel honoured and privileged to hold this title in such a fantastic city with its surrounding towns and villages. We are so lucky to live in an area of great culture and beauty. I have chosen two very worthy local charities. The Strode Park Foundation and The Special Needs Advisory & Activities Project (SNAAP). Both rely heavily on donations and monies raised through charity events. Together l hope to raise enough money to make a difference. The Strode Park Foundation was chosen in the memory and honour of the late Barbara Todd who sadly lost her life in January 2018. A well known and very well respected lady, a past Lady Mayoress and a trustee to the Strode Park Foundation. I am sure everyone can relate to or knows someone who has suffered with the effects of the brain not functioning as it should. Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease, Stroke and Alzheimers to name but a few, Strode Park offers nursing and residential care in its neuro-rehabilitation centre and has therapeutic services. It also offers care for all disabilities for both children and adults. There is day care to give both patient and carer a much needed break as well as appropriately equipped holiday bungalows. Other services include independence and life skills training, respite and home care and so much more that will make a difference to the lives of so many. Along with YOU, my dedicated committee and groups of volunteers, let’s be generous to those who are less fortunate than us and make the difference. Thank you so much." Julie Spooner, Lady Mayoress.
