“Kent, its people and organisations are very important to me – I am Chairman of Visit Kent and a Kent Ambassador, as well as a Trustee of Canterbury Cathedral and the Godinton House Preservation Trust. I’m Patron of Produced in Kent and the Caldecott Foundation, and co-Patron of the Strode Park Foundation, the Maidstone Museum and the East Kent Stroke Association, as well as Director of a small bus company which serves the rural areas of the county.

It’s also an honour to be a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers and a Freeman of the City of London. In addition, I am Chairman of my local Parish Council and County President of the Girl Guide movement.

I held the post of High Sheriff of Kent in 2006–07 and was a magistrate for 23 years. I have an Honorary Fellowship from Canterbury Christchurch University and an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law from the University of Kent.

I was widowed in 1996, have four children and ten grandchildren and live in the village of Challock. I was invested with the OBE in 2011 in recognition of services to Kent; I am a Director of the Board of VisitEngland and Deputy Lieutenant of Kent.”
