Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or disability. The core aim is to enable those receiving physiotherapy to reach their optimum physical potential. In a rehabilitation setting it works alongside all the other professions and therapies to contribute to the overall quality of life as well as helping you to achieve your specific goals.

To achieve these aims we are involved in the following areas:

  • Detailed assessment
  • Helping you to set goals
  • Promoting all aspects of mobility
  • Relieving pain
  • Reducing anxiety and lifting mood
  • Building confidence
  • Building strength and stamina
  • Helping all systems in the body to work efficiently

Treatment approaches include the following:

  • Massage and other specialist hands on therapies
  • Exercise
  • Movement re-training
  • Assisted standing and walking
  • Tailoring treatment to promote functional activities
  • Using innovative technologies and equipment such as FES and SAEBOFLEX

Physiotherapy programs are set according to the needs of each individual. The amount and duration of physiotherapy intervention will vary according to the task and treatment aim at that time. It is very important to recognise that everyone is different. Therefore methods used and progress made can vary tremendously between one person and another even when there is the same diagnosis.
