Neuropsychology
Neuropsychology involves the assessment of cognitive functioning and application of interventions to help when this is required. Cognitive function covers a broad area and includes memory, attention, concentration and judgement. As well as assessing cognitive functions, a neuropsychologist is also interested in emotional wellbeing, behaviour and personality, and how these are affected after a brain injury or neurological condition.
Assessments are used to help to identify a person’s strengths and weaknesses in different cognitive domains. These assessments usually involve spoken, visual and pen and paper tests. It is sometimes also necessary to invite the persons family or carers to gain a better understanding of how the person functions on everyday tasks.
